酵母細胞研究會は一九五九年（昭和三四年）十月はじめに約二十名の酵母関係研究者をもって創立されました。その目的は国内に散在する酵母研究者間の情報交換と研究の推進、および海外研究者との交流でありました。
したがって、徒らに會を拡大して研究討論の粗雑化を来たすことなく、少数の人数で、実質的に成果をあげて酵母研究に貢献しようということでありました。
大学、會社、研究所の第一線に活躍するメンバーを有効、実質的に糾合して取敢ず、湯浅明（東京大学教授・細胞学）を會長として酵母細胞研究會を結成して、月々の例會を以て発足しました。幹事として山本康（キリンビール・研究所）つづいて倉石衍（東京農工大学助教授）が当たりました。現在の幹事は大隅正子（日本女子大学教授）です。
一九六三年十月には岡山大学理学部に綜合シンポジウムを開きました。一九七〇年七月には、二、三外人研究者講演會を開き、さらに一九七四年五月には、酵母細胞研究會担当のもとに、第一回酵母合同シンポジウム（酵母の代謝と生理）を東京都文京区、エーザイ株式會社ホールに開催しました。
現在、會員数 名、年四回の例會をもち、五、十月に半日のシンポジウム、七、十二月に二題の講演と情報交換、懇親の會としております。
本研究會が地味な研究討論を通じて酵母研究に貢献し得た事実は、自他ともに認め得るところと信じます。今後、會員一同、渾身の努力をもって、この方面の研究に精進する積りでおります。
本會は、その運営を會員の會費（年一〇〇〇円）に頼るものにて、活動にかなりの困難を感じております。本會の真摯なる活動をご認識下さって賛助員として御援助頂ければ幸甚これにすぎません。
時節柄御自愛の程を祈り申し上げます。

The Seminar of Yeast-cell Studies

The seminar of yeast-cell studies in Tokyo has 100 members and has a meeting once a month. It has also a big meeting once a year at which about one hundred and fifty investigators attend and discuss various problems on yeasts.
Among the members of this seminar there are professors or assistant-professors of universities, investigators of institutes and investigators of brewing and drug companies.
At this seminar one member talks about his work on yeasts and attending members discuss this problem with him. Sometimes an investigators of another field is invited to talk at this seminar about his studies, for example, about cytology of microorganisms, membrane-permeability of fungi and so on.
The aim of this seminar is to study yeast-cells from various points of views of biology and to contribute to the complete understanding of yeast-cells.
Dr. Akira Yuasa is now the chairman of this seminar. Adress for all correspondence is Dr. A. Yuasa, Department of Biology, College of General Education, University of Tokyo, Komaba, Meguroku, Tokyo.

The following list shows the subjects and speakers of the symposium which was held on Oct. 12, 1962, in Tokyo, under auspices of Seminar of Yeast-cell Studies.
1) Gyozo Terui and Toshiro Enatsu: Anthranilic acid metabolism and Tryptophan-biosynthesis of yeast.
2) Toshiaki Takahashi: Linkage-group of yeasts.
3) Kanji Seno and Joji Ashida: Genetics of Cu-resistance in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
4) Gen Kuraishi: Unbalanced growth of yeasts.
5) Akio Maeda: Structure and protein-synthesis of ribosomes.
The following list shows the subjects and speakers of the second symposium which was held on April 8, 1963, in Tokyo.
1) Gen Kuraishi: Physiology of yeast cells in the case of nutrition-defficiency.
2) Kenji Tanaka: Electron-microscopical study of several fungi.
3) Keisuke Tsubaki: Phylogeny of imperfect fungi.
On Oct. 13 of this year at the Annual Meeting of Botanical Society of Japan at Okayama the symposium on yeast-cells will be held under the auspices of the Seminar of Yeast-cell studies.
The meeting on yeast-cells will also be held at Osaka following the meeting at Okayama and various problems on yeast-cells will be discussed by various investigators.
